Laser hair removal is a procedure, which removes hair from the body. The laser targets the darkness of the melanin pigment in the hair follicle. When the hair follicle is destroyed, it is unable to re-grow hair. Because of the unique properties of each laser wavelength, the tissue surrounding the hair follicle is left untouched leaving you simply smooth.
We use the EPICARE “the ultimate hair removal system”. Light Age’s Epicare laser systems are specifically designed to meet the most demanding requirements place on long pulse and alexandrite laser system.
They provide the very best performance, speed, and effectiveness. The system is FDA approved. Also we use the Laser Cooling System, Zimmer, which provides more comfort for the treatment by sending out cool air on the treated area.
The average number of treatments needed in order to achieve the full effect of laser hair removal varies greatly from person to person, and also varies between body parts. The majority of clients will end up needing approximately 5-6 (once again depending on the type of hair, skin…etc) treatments to accomplish permanent results. The time between each treatment is usually about 4-6 weeks, however it depends on what area is being treated.
Your appointment time will depend on the areas that you are having treated
Yes, laser hair removal is a permanent. Most can expect to achieve 80-90% permanent hair reduction. Hair removal is less effective on red, blonde or grey hair. In addition, hormonal changes can potentially cause re-growth.
When performed by trained and experienced practitioners, side effects from laser hair removal are uncommon. Potential reactions include hyper- pigmentation (darkening of skin) or a histamine reaction (allergic reaction to the heat). Both conditions are temporary and can easily be treated with topical creams.
Most people tolerate it very well. Many customers have compared it to a rubber band snapping against the skin. Compared to waxing the treatment has very little discomfort. However, everyone’s pain tolerance is different.
Patients should not wax, epilate, or remove hair with the root using any other hair removal method for at least 6 weeks prior to their first session and throughout their course of treatments. The area to be treated should be shaved 1-2 days prior to treatments so that the energy is targeted towards the hair follicle and not wasted it on the hair above the skin’s surface. All hair should shed within 3 weeks* following the treatment. Sometimes, shedding doesn’t start until about 10 days after the session. During the shedding phase, hair may look like it’s growing, but it is actually coming out to shed.
After the treatment, the treated area may be red or pink and feel similar to a sunburn. These reactions will resolve within 24 hours.
Some people may experience the following potential temporary side effects:
◦ Redness for up to 3 days
◦ Swelling around mouth of follicle for up to 3 days
◦ Tingling or feeling of numbness
The following rare side effects are indicative of inappropriate laser type and/or settings:
◦ Crusting/scab formation
◦ Purpura (purple coloring of the skin)
Temporary pigment change (hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation)
Chemical peels are topically applied acids that help to rejuvenate the skin surface by creating an even and controlled shedding of the skin cells. This allows new layers to be exposed, which creates a fresh appearance and smoother texture to the skin surface. In addition, new cells and collagen are stimulated, creating a more even tone. A chemical peel involves a peeling agent being placed on the skin, which causes a superficial wound. The depth of the peel depends on the concentration and type of acid used and the duration of contact. Dermatology Associates performs superficial and medium-depth peels using glycolic, salicylic or trichloroacetic acid (TCA). Since glycolic and salicylic acid provide a more superficial peel than TCA peels, in order to achieve maximum benefit they will need to be repeated a number of times over several weeks to months.
A light-to-medium depth chemical peel can improve sun damage, blotchy pigmentation, fine wrinkling and early actinic keratoses (pre-cancerous skin lesions). A peel can also improve acne-prone skin and clogged pores (whiteheads and blackheads)
Peels take away dead skin cells and compel the generation of new skin, thus eliminating fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, blotchiness, dryness acne and a host of other mild skin conditions.
A typical treatment should take no longer than 15-30 minutes.
Upon application, patients feel a slight stinging, which subsides after a few minutes.
Your skin will be given a youthful glow. It is not uncommon for people to notice your new texture and compliment it. Immediately following the treatment, your skin may be slightly red, but nothing drastic. Any redness will disappear before the end of the day.
A program of one peel a week for six weeks is recommended. Sticking to such a regimen will ensure the lasting results, even though you will see an improvement after just one treatment.
